A private 20 minute ‘Welcome to the Highlights of the Hall’ introduction by one of our guides, followed by the opportunity to enjoy Haddon and its gardens at your leisure.
Be greeted by one of our guides in the Haddon Restaurant and enjoy a 20 minute introduction over a cup of coffee, tea and cakes, which will provide you and your group greater home and family, before you are accompanied to the hall are left to explore. If you have any questions during your visit, our knowledgeable and friendly guides found within the Hall will be on hand to answer any questions.
The Haddon Hall Guided Tour
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
Our most popular tour explores the 900 year architectural, social and family history of the Hall. Our expert guide will explain how the family lived within Haddon, how the Tudor kitchens functioned, will provide interpretations of the rare frescoes secco on the Chapel walls, the importance of the Tudor and Elizabethan rooms, the history of the tapestries and much more..
This tour is ideal for any visitor seeking a general and insightful overview of the history of the Hall and the family who have lived in it.
Guided Garden History Tour
Duration: 1 hour
Lead by one of our knowledgeable guides, discover how the gardens evolved from their medieval ‘hut-yard’ or orchard, origins to the dramatic terraced gardens you see today, designed by the famed Elizabethan architect Robert Smythson.
Head Garden Tour
Duration: 1 hour
In the company of our Head Gardener, Lindsay Berry, discover the secrets behind our beautiful gardens and their organic management. Hear of the historic uses of the plants than now grow in the Knot Garden and Bowling Terrace borders. Discover the treasures of the medieval flowery mead and learn how to recreate the spirit of Haddon in your own home using some of our favourite plants. The tour can be tailored to suit your group’s requirements and can be combined with an indoor presentation if the weather is inclement.
The Haddon Hall and Garden Guided Tour
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Greeted by one of our guides at the Ticket Office, our Hall and Garden Guided Tour covers all the aspects of the Hall guided Tour but also offers a brief history of the structure and historical development of the Gardens.

Groups of 10 or more - £17.50 per person
(It is possible to book a private guided tour for fewer than 10, but minimum charges will apply).
We ask groups to make one payment on arrival, by cheque, card or cash.
The cost of your tour also includes readmission into the hall and gardens, so you can return to view them at your leisure and absorb any details you may have missed.

Between March and October, tours can be arranged from 9.30am, organised to suit the time of your group’s arrival. Our Gift Shop can also be opened, with prior notice, for visitors to purchase souvenirs as they leave the estate.
During our closed season we undertake conservation work and cleaning. While it is still possible to arrange visits during this time, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate all tours. The Haddon Restaurant is a comfortable retreat, offering exclusive tour group menus which can be pre-booked to accommodate groups large and small.
Situated in the 17th Century stable block adjacent to the Duke’s Tower entrance, the restaurant provides a wide array of quality dishes to suit all tastes and moods; from sumptuous fine dining to traditional afternoon tea, refreshing light lunches to tempting coffee-time treats.

All groups must be of 10 or more visitors, be pre-booked at least 7 working days in advance of your visit and you must have submitted your booking form (see below). Your tour will be confirmed upon receipt of a Confirmation of Booking Letter from us to you.
Payment prior to your visit can be arranged by bank transfer, please ask for details during the booking process. Alternatively, payment can be taken on the day at the Ticket Office by cash, card or cheque made payable to Haddon Hall. For UK travel companies, an invoice can be raised for payment following your visit.

Our car park is situated across the road from the hall and grounds, on the opposite side of the A6. We have a designated coach parking area, close to the entrance and on hard surface.
The distance from the car park to the Hall is approximately 366 metres and includes some gravel surface and 30 steps. We ask that visitors take special care when crossing the busy A6 and note that the car park can become extremely crowded during special events, in which case, overflow parking is provided in the field beyond.
By Road - Haddon Hall is situated on the A6 between Bakewell and Rowsley, 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Bakewell. The Hall has a dedicated car park on the A6.
If using Sat Nav or other navigation software, we recommend that you input directions specifically to our car park (A6, Bakewell, DE45 1LA) to avoid you being incorrectly directed to an off-road site. Alternatively, use directions for Bakewell or Rowsley, then follow the brown tourist signs for Haddon Hall. The car park is clearly signposted from both directions.
By Train - We have excellent train links with many major UK stations via Matlock, Sheffield, Derby or Chesterfield. Bus services (see ‘Bus’ tab) from each station run directly to our driveway, or taxis to the Hall take between 30 minutes - 1 hour and cost between £30 - £50.
By Bus - Bus from Matlock Train Station
Take either the TransPeak (TP) or the 6.1 bus route from Platform 1 of the Matlock bus station, towards Buxton or Bakewell respectively. This is an hourly service during the day, with journey times between 25 - 30 minutes.
Bus from Derby Bus Station
Take the TransPeak (TP) bus route from Platform 21 of the Derby bus station towards Buxton. This is, again, an hourly service, with a journey time of just over 1 hour. Alternatively, travel by train to Matlock and follow the route above.
Bus from Bakewell Bus Station
Take either the TransPeak (TP), 6.1 or 172 services from Stand E of Bakewell bus station. Buses are regular, with a journey time of around 5 minutes or less.
Bus from Sheffield Interchange
Take the 218 Peak Line service to Bakewell from Bay D3 of Sheffield Bus Interchange, leaving every half an hour with a journey time of around an hour, then follow instructions above from Bakewell.
Bus From Chesterfield
Take the 170 bus route from Stop B12 on New Beetwell Street to Bakewell, leaving every hour with a journey time of around 45 minutes, then follow instructions above from Bakewell.

On Foot or Bicycle - There are public footpaths close to Haddon Hall, but no public footpaths run through the parkland - please check OS maps. There is a footpath along the A6 between Rowsley and Bakewell, though we would advise caution if walking or cycling, due to the busy main road. Bicycles can be left free of charge in the bike racks located in the car park, and we also have a charging point for electric bikes.

The gift shop also sells our official guidebook, which tells the captivating story of the Hall room by room, helping history come to life as you explore at your leisure.
We welcome all visitors to Haddon Hall, but please note that there are many uneven floors and steps around the site due to the age and architecture of the building. If in doubt, we recommend reading our full accessibility statement here, or call ahead for further information.
Buggy Service
Haddon operates a buggy service for visitors unable to navigate the 366 metres to the hall from the Gatehouse entrance. The buggy stops are at the entrance gatehouse and at the end of the drive near the restaurant. This service can be arranged via the car park or ticket office staff. Please note the service is not available in extreme weather and is subject to availability.
Pram & Pushchairs
Unfortunately, we cannot allow large bags, prams, pushchairs or mobility scooters into the hall. We do however offer a variety of alternative baby carrying equipment, and safe bag storage at the entrance.
Smoking & Vaping
Smoking or vaping is not permitted anywhere within the grounds and halls of Haddon.
