Group Visits

Create the perfect visit for your group or society, with tours tailored to your interests and themes, from history to architecture, gardening to tapestries.

Admission and Tours

To help your party to uncover the treasure trove of secrets awaiting you at Haddon, we work with you to develop a bespoke group itinerary for your visit. This may include specialist guided tours, dining in our 17th Century stable block restaurant or simply a leisurely stroll around the grounds at your own pace; anything you need to create an ideal day out.

Possible themes include the following, though many more options are available to discuss and create for your experience:

  • History & Heritage, ranging from the Norman period to present day
  • Architecture
  • Restoration
  • Film & TV
  • Gardens and Gardening
  • Photography & Art
  • Textiles & Tapestries
  • Religion

We strive to create a unique experience for each group, so prices may vary depending on group size, visitor type and requirements. See below for our general guidelines, or be in touch to discuss how specific requests may affect costings:

Self-Guided Visits
Adults - £15.50 per person
Concessions - £13.50 per person

Guided Tours (March to October)
Groups of 10 or more  - £17.50 per person
(It is possible to book a private guided tour for fewer than 10, but minimum charges will apply).

We ask groups to make one payment on arrival, by cheque, card or cash.

Tour durations may vary, but Hall, Garden and combined tours last approximately one hour. The cost of your tour also includes readmission into the hall and gardens, so you can return to view them at your leisure and absorb any details you may have missed.

Please note that we do not offer guided tours at Bank Holiday weekends or during Christmas opening. Tours on our normally closed days in January, February and November will have additional charges.

Our Tours Coordinator, Isabelle Stuart, will be happy to discuss your group’s visit with you, and help you select the perfect tour.

You can reach Isabelle on 01629 810912, or email isabelle@haddonhall.co.uk, to discuss dates and make arrangements.

Our car park is situated across the road from the house and grounds, on the opposite side of the A6.

The distance from the car park to the Hall is approximately 250 metres and includes some gravel surface and 30 steps. We ask that visitors take special care when crossing the busy A6 and note that the car park can become extremely crowded during special events.

Directions

By Road - Haddon Hall is situated on the A6 between Bakewell and Rowsley, 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Bakewell. The Hall has a dedicated car park on the A6.

If using Sat Nav or other navigation software, we recommend that you input directions specifically to our car park to avoid being taken via a private track with our postcode. Alternatively, use directions for Bakewell or Rowsley, then follow the brown tourist signs for Haddon Hall. The car park is clearly signposted from both directions.

By Train - We have excellent train links with many major UK stations via Matlock, Sheffield, Derby or Chesterfield. Bus services (see ‘Bus’ tab) from each station run directly to to our driveway, or taxis take between 30 minutes - 1 hour and cost around £30 - £50.

By Bus - Bus from Matlock Train Station
Take either the TransPeak (TP) or the 6.1 bus route from Platform 1 of the Matlock bus station, towards Buxton or Bakewell respectively. This is an hourly service during the day, with journey times between 25 - 30 minutes.

Bus from Derby
Take the TransPeak (TP) bus route from Platform 21 of the Derby bus station towards Buxton. This is, again, an hourly service, with a journey time of just over 1 hour. Alternatively, travel by train to Matlock and follow the route above.

Bus from Bakewell
Take either the TransPeak (TP), 6.1 or 172 services from Stand E of Bakewell bus station. Buses are regular, with a journey time of around 5 minutes or less.

Bus from Sheffield
Take the 218 Peak Line service to Bakewell from Bay D3 of Sheffield Bus Interchange, leaving every half an hour with a journey time of around an hour, then follow instructions above from Bakewell.

Bus From Chesterfield
Take the 170 bus route from Stop B12 on New Beetwell Street to Bakewell, leaving every hour with a journey time of around 45 minutes, then follow instructions above from Bakewell.

For further information, visit the Peak District National Park website, or find timetables and routes via the site for each service.

On Foot or Bicycle - There are public footpaths close to Haddon Hall, but no public footpaths run through the site - please check OS maps. There is a footpath along the A6 between Rowsley and Bakewell, though we would advise caution if walking or cycling, due to the busy main road. Bicycles can be left free of charge in the bike racks located in the car park, and we also have a charging point for electric bikes.
